Today brought two important milestones for Abbey Root.
The first was completing the initial version of abbey-doctor, giving the project a dedicated health check for repository consistency, required tools, and overall project readiness. The toolkit has continued evolving from a collection of helper scripts into a project-aware development environment.
The second milestone was completing the core journal publishing workflow for BradCooke.com.
Accomplishments
- Completed the first version of
abbey-doctor. - Added dynamic journal detail pages.
- Made journal entries directly accessible from the journal listing.
- Added previous and next navigation between journal entries.
- Introduced a shared date formatting helper for consistent presentation.
- Updated project planning and roadmap documentation to reflect the new capabilities.
The journal now behaves like a true publishing platform rather than a static collection of Markdown files.
Lessons Learned
Small reusable utilities, like a shared date formatter, reduce duplication and make future improvements much easier.
Likewise, building abbey-doctor reinforced the value of metadata-driven tooling. By teaching the toolkit to understand the project, it becomes easier to identify problems, maintain consistency, and quickly resume work after time away.
Next Steps
With the publishing platform now in place, the focus shifts from building infrastructure to creating content.
Upcoming priorities include:
- Improve the
ProjectHeadercomponent. - Write the first technical article.
- Document the completed data closet.
- Continue refining the visual design of BradCooke.com.
- Expand the Abbey Toolkit with additional project-aware capabilities.
